I gave a paper presentation at the 2026 Universities Studying Slavery Conference about the various approaches people have used to identify and trace ancestries of enslaved and formerly enslaved persons across digital records. It was great to speak with and learn from descendants and other scholars about the possibilities of computing for linking these records, as well as the potential harms.
